JAK KAVAN - THE FACTS

Born in 1968 the youngest of six children and raised in a tradition of story telling and yarn spinning. Much of it used as an instrument of terror against me by my older brother.

Twenty years later I am running a seaside bar frequented by some of the best yarn spinners, story tellers and wind up merchants that ever earned a living from the sea. I loved it when bad weather put the fishermen to shore, spending some time in the pub telling yarns and stories. The pub itself was hundreds of years old and was once the best rum house in the British Isles. If those walls could talk and sometimes they did just that, like the time we found a time capsule in an old wine bottle in the walls.

It was the wealth of local lore, legends and ghost stories that inspired me to take up a pen and write.

The Mission

The Torun Chronicles are an immediate priority.

JAK KAVAN - THE MISSION

My ambition is to be a commercially successful writer of speculative fiction. I take my literary inspiration from such greats as the short stories of Phillip K Dick, the space opera of Alastair Reynolds, the vision of Isaac Asimov & Arthur C, Clarke. I also can't help but admire the story craft of Stephen King & the prolific Dean Koontz.

Other writers that inspire me are Earl Hamner whose versatility took him from the Twilight Zone to the Waltons to Falcon Crest. One of my favourite pieces of prose is Silence by Edgar  Allan Poe.

I am in awe of Ayn Rand.

My most immediate literary priority to complete The Torun Chronicles. A science fiction series of ten novella length stories.
